Job Definition Format (JDF) and Job Messaging Format (JMF) are Graphic Arts Industry standards, designed by CIP4 to link devices. The goal of jdf4you.org is to help you become familiar with CIP4's JDF and JMF technologies. The intended audiences are printers interested in integrating and linking their JDF devices, and others interested in how JDF and JMF work.

The goal of jdf4you.org is not to give you a detailed and holistic description of JDF / JMF technology. Further more jdf4you.org is a community platform to introduce you to the fundamental concepts of JDF / JMF technology and CIP4 tools. Following an online presentation as introduction to JDF / JMF:                     

CIP4 Alces

CIP4 Alces is an JDF / JMF Integration Tool. Using Alces you are able to explore JDF / JMF Interfaces. Further it is an easy tool for learning how JDF / JMF works. Alces provides and showcases the mechanism how to send JDF Documents to a target JDF Device using Job Messaging Format (JMF). The JDF Document creation and modification is NOT covered by CIP4 Alces.

JMF Status Subscription using Microsoft .NET (C#)

This tutorial demonstrates how to develop a simple JDF Application for production data acquisition (PDA) in Microsoft .NET (C#). The PDA is based on the JMF Status Subscription mechanism which is used to subscribe to periodical JMF Status Signals of JDF Devices.

Glossary

JDF Document
JDF is an interchange data format to be used by a system of administrative and implementation-oriented components, which together produce printed products. It provides the means to describe print Jobs in terms of the products eventually to be created, as well as in terms of the Processes needed to create those products. The format provides a mechanism to explicitly specify the controls needed by each Process, which might be specific to the Devices that will execute the Processes. (Source: JDF Spec. 1.4a)
